Plants are excellent systems for producing recombinant proteins, but we view the unmodified plant host as just the starting point. By transiently modifying the host for production of specific recombinant proteins, we have demonstrated:
- Improved expression: higher yields and recovery
- Improved protein stability: reduced proteolysis of target protein, resulting in higher activity
- Altered post-translation modifications: changing glycans and other protein modifications
